Nicole Rodrigo

Hawthorn Welcomes New School of Dual Language Principal

Dear Dual Language Community,

As you know, Dr. Gordon and Mrs. Fabrizio are serving in the role of co-interim principals at the School of Dual Language throughout our 2020-2021 school year. We have conducted a comprehensive search for a Dual Language principal to begin on July 1, 2021, and I am pleased to announce that Ms. Nicole Rodrigo has been approved by the Board of Education to serve in this role.

Ms. Rodrigo is currently a fifth-grade dual language teacher leader at Barrington Community Unit School District 220, where she has taught at both Grove Avenue and Arnett C. Lines Elementary Schools. Prior to that, she taught fourth and fifth grade dual language classes at Channing Elementary in School District U46. Ms. Rodrigo received a Bachelor of Science in Education – Bilingual/Bicultural Education from Western Illinois University, where she also minored in Spanish. She received a Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership from National Louis University.

Ms. Rodrigo has shown an ability to lead effectively, with student needs as the top priority. She has created and aligned dual language curriculum maps, mentored new teachers, planned and supervised after school enrichment programs, and organized an in-school math lab. Ms. Rodrigo also brings an excellent reputation as a skilled instructor to the principalship, and has provided high quality professional development in dual language learning to educators in the field.

I will work diligently with Ms. Rodrigo to transition her to Hawthorn School District #73. In addition, Dr. Gordon and Mrs. Fabrizio will help familiarize her with our School of Dual Language students, teachers, and community. Because of our supportive community and wonderful staff, I am very confident that the students of Dual Language will be in the best possible hands.

I would like to thank the teachers, parents, and administrators who participated in our principal selection process over the past several months, and hope you will join me in welcoming Ms. Rodrigo to our Hawthorn community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Peter Hannigan
Superintendent
