Entire School Reads for 20 Minutes

On Thursday, all students and staff at the School of Dual Language stopped and read from 9:20 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. to recognize and celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss.

Pennies for Patients Begins March 6th

Dual Language is participating in Pennies for Patients, a service learning program that helps raise critical funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the world’s largest nonprofit fighting blood cancer. The fundraiser will be from March 6-20th.  Donations & themed days are optional, but encouraged.  The classroom that donates the most money will receive a FREE Olive Garden Pasta Party!  Thanks for your support and please donate!  Individual student boxes will be sent home Tuesday to help transport money from home to school.

Classes Take Part in Language/Cultural Exchange

Spanish and English speaking students are learning from each other at the School of Dual Language and Townline. Mrs. Bolender’s second-grade class at Townline visited Ms. Naughton’s second-grade class at the School of Dual Language to learn some basic Spanish sounds. The Townline students wanted to learn how to say the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish. It is a tradition that Dual Language classes recite the Pledge of Allegiance in English and Spanish, while Townline recites it in English. Mrs. Bolender’s class will now be able to recite the pledge in English and Spanish. Kudos to Mrs. Bolender and her students for wanting to branch out and learn the pledge in Spanish! And, Ms. Naughton’s students were impressed to learn that Mrs. Bolender’s students speak other languages at home, such as Korean, Russian, and Cambodian.

Cultural Night is Coming: March 8

The School of Dual Language is hosting a Cultural Night, featuring Andres Salguero, on Friday, March 8. A Grammy award winner, Mr. Salguero is one of the most exciting new voices on the family music scene in the United States and Latin America. The event will take place on March 8 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hawthorn School of Dual Language/Townline Elementary, 810 N. Aspen Drive in Vernon Hills. Valentine’s Day is a Big Hit

Students, teachers, staff and volunteers had a great time at the School of Dual Language Valentine’s Day parties on Thursday afternoon. There were plenty of fun games and activities in every classroom. Everyone joined in the fun.

SOAR Assembly Focuses on Kindness Week

The School of Dual Language’s February SOAR assembly focused on Kindness Week.  Ms. Guerrero’s fifth grade class was the winner of the “SOARing Eagle” trophy for the month of February. View the presentation.
